Waikoloa Village is on the West Side of the Big Island, centrally located between the towns of Kailua-Kona and Waimea, an over-looking the Resort Areas of the Kohala Coast (Waikoloa Beach Resort, Mauna Lani Resort & Mauna Kea Resort). Waikoloa Village covers an area of approximately 19 square miles and is at an elevation of approximately 440 feet.
The Waikoloa area is known for being a bit windy, since it catches the woinds blowing between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, but the same winds also provide for clear skies, sunny weather and minimal rain. The average temperature in Waikoloa Village stays in the mid-70s to 80s. It can get really warm when the wind is not blowing - hi-80s to low-90s and when there is snow on the top of Mauna Kea morning's and some evenings can be quite chilly - getting into the low 60s.
Waikoloa Village is a family community with many of the residents working in the Resort areas in the Travel or Service Industries. There is one school in the Village, Waikoloa Elementary School, currently educating children in grades Kindergarten to 6th grade, with 7th garde being added in the 2008-09 school year and 8th grade being added in the 2009-10 school year.
The Waikoloa Village Association is the homeowners association which oversees the Codes, Covenants & Restrictions of the community and also maintains the homeowner amenities. Amenities include a Robert Trent Jones, Jr designed golf course that is challenging enough for the serious golfer, but fun for beginners as well. The 6,791-yard par-72 course has all of the characteristics of Jones designs, with additional challenges unique to this island landscape. Other amenities include tennis courts, a community pool and stables.
